Date: Jun 1, 2026 Time: 9:00pm- 10:00pm Location: Boston City Hall Plaza

Environmental Conditions: It was nighttime and the plaza was quiet. The area had trees, planted spaces, concrete walkways, benches, and artificial lighting from the surrounding buildings.

Overall Reflection

For this week’s nature attunement activity, I visited Boston City Hall Plaza. Even though it is located in the middle of the city, I noticed that there are still trees and planted areas throughout the plaza. The plants made the space feel calmer and less crowded.

At the same time, the area is surrounded by concrete, buildings, lights, and city noise. This made me think about how nature has to adapt in an urban environment. If the trees and plants could speak, they might ask for more space, cleaner soil, and less light and noise at night.

Artifact 1: “Nature in the City”

Type of Art: Photo

At the beginning of my visit, I was walking through the city when I noticed this park area surrounded by buildings. The contrast caught my attention because the trees and plants created a calmer space in the middle of a busy urban environment. Even though the park was small compared to the buildings around it, it still made the area feel more peaceful and welcoming.

Artifact 2: “A Space Between Nature and Concrete”

Type of Art: Photo

In the middle of my visit, I noticed the waterfall at Boston City Hall Plaza. The sound of the flowing water stood out because it helped block out some of the city noise. Even though the plaza was surrounded by buildings, concrete, and artificial lights, the waterfall made the area feel calmer and more relaxing. It reminded me that small natural elements can make a busy city space feel more peaceful.

Artifact 3: “What the Trees Might Say”

Type of Art: Short Poem

Surrounded by concrete, the trees still grow.Under the city lights, they quietly remind usthat nature is still here.

I wrote this poem because the trees seemed peaceful, even though they were surrounded by buildings, pathways, and artificial lights.
